PROGRAM NOTES: Lower Wacker Drive
When I was asked by Kelly Via to compose a piece for the Windy City Flute Orchestra to be performed at the 2014 National Flute Association Convention in Chicago, IL, I knew I wanted to draw inspiratipon from one of my favorite films "The Blues Brothers", which is set in and around Chicago. I decided to write a piece in a jazz/blues style, and i wanted to take the title of the piece from an element in the film. The title "Lower Wacker Drive" comes from a piece of dialogue, during the long closing car chase:
Elwood: This is definitely Lower Wacker Drive! If my estimations are correct, we should be very close to the Honorable
Richard J. Daley Plaza!
Jake: That's where they got that Picasso.
Elwood: Yep.
