Description

A work using two Ukrainian holiday songs for solo sopilka and 11 flutes.  Duration: 6 min.

Program Notes

This piece was composed for the Los Angeles Flute Orchestra and features a sopilka soloist.  The sopilka is a traditional end blown wooden flute from Ukraine, with ten finger holes and is fully chromatic.  The piece combines two well known Ukrainian holiday songs: Shchedryk (Carol of the Bells) and Boh Predvichny.
